The problem
The storm passed. The hard part starts now.
You hear water dripping inside the wall. The roof has a tarp held down by a 2x4. Three out-of-state trucks knocked on your door yesterday and one is parked on your lawn right now. Your insurance company is going to want a real contractor's scope, written in their language. The clock is running.
- Storm-chasers in out-of-state trucks promising 'we'll cover your deductible.' That's insurance fraud — and they'll be gone in 90 days.
- Contractors who don't speak Xactimate — your claim stalls, your money gets left on the table.
- A tarp held down by a 2x4 that the next rain blows off.
- A 'free inspection' that turns into a high-pressure same-day sales pitch.
- No CertainTeed credential, no manufacturer warranty — just a 1-year handshake.

What clients say
4.3 stars · 51 verified Google reviews.
Storm work from real Portland-metro homeowners — read every word on our Google Business Profile.
“They had a tarp on the roof the same day. Their PM met our State Farm adjuster on-site three days later and we had a signed scope before the week was out.”
“We had two storm-chasers knock on our door. Green O was the only Oregon-licensed contractor — and the only one who didn't try to talk about the deductible.”
“CertainTeed SELECT warranty was the closer for us. New roof, transferable to the next owner if we ever sell. Pro through and through.”
What it really costs
On a storm claim, your cost is usually your deductible.
What we won't do: discount it (that's insurance fraud in Oregon). What we will do: write a true scope so the carrier covers everything they should.
What drives a storm claim's true scope:
- Damage type. Wind-lifted shingles, hail bruising, tree impact, water intrusion — each has a different repair-vs-replace path.
- Roof age + condition. Some carriers apply ACV depreciation; others full replacement. A complete pre-loss inspection matters.
- Hidden damage. Sheathing, underlayment, ice-and-water shield, flashing, sometimes framing. The visible damage is rarely the full damage.
- Code upgrades triggered by the repair. Sometimes new code requires upgrades the original roof didn't have — your policy may or may not cover them.
- Interior repair scope. Drywall, paint, flooring, insulation that got wet — easy to miss on the first inspection.
Our job: document everything in Xactimate format, walk with the adjuster, write supplements when damage is missed. If cash flow on your deductible is tight, we can connect you with Hearth or Service Finance Co.
Questions, answered
Storm Damage FAQ.
The questions we hear in the first 10 minutes of every storm call, answered plainly.
How fast can you actually get out here?
We answer storm calls 24/7/365 with a real human callback within 24 hours, usually much faster — most callbacks during business hours are inside one hour. For active leaks, fallen trees on structures, or open roof systems we'll roll a tarp crew the same day during daylight in most Portland-metro ZIP codes.
Do I call you first or my insurance first?
Call us first if the damage is active (water coming in, tree on the roof, exposed sheathing). We'll stop the bleeding — tarp, board-up, water mitigation. Then call your insurance to open the claim. We work with your adjuster from there. If the damage is stable, you can call either of us first — order doesn't matter long-term.
Do you work directly with insurance adjusters?
Yes. Our PMs are Xactimate-fluent (the software almost every major carrier uses to scope and price storm claims), and we have working relationships with adjusters at the major Pacific Northwest carriers. We'll meet your adjuster on-site, walk the damage together, and submit our scope in their format — not a paper bid they have to retype.
What's the CertainTeed SELECT warranty and why does it matter on a storm claim?
CertainTeed SELECT ShingleMaster is the top tier of CertainTeed's contractor credential — only ~1% of US roofers carry it. It unlocks the SureStart PLUS warranty: a transferable, 50-year material warranty plus 25 years on labor when SELECT-grade shingles are installed. On a storm replacement, this means your replacement roof comes with stronger coverage than the one the storm took out. We're a 4-Star SELECT contractor.
What does Xactimate-fluent mean and why does it matter?
Xactimate is the line-item estimating software almost every insurance carrier uses for property claims. A contractor who isn't fluent in it submits a bid the adjuster has to manually re-key into their system — which slows the claim, opens line-by-line dispute, and often leaves money on the table. We write our scopes in Xactimate format from the start, so the claim moves and the homeowner doesn't get nickel-and-dimed.
What if my insurance denies the claim?
Sometimes it happens — adjuster missed damage, underpaid certain line items, or denied portions outright. We'll do a free re-inspection, document additional damage with photos and meter readings, and write a supplement. If the carrier still won't budge and the damage is real, we'll point you to an independent public adjuster or, in rare cases, an attorney. We don't profit from the denial — we just want the roof done right.
What if my deductible is high — do you discount it?
No. Insurance fraud is a crime in Oregon and we don't play games with deductibles. What we will do: write a true and complete scope, work the claim aggressively so the carrier covers everything they should, and present financing options through Hearth or Service Finance Co for the deductible if cash flow is tight.
Can you do emergency tarp service even if I might not hire you for the full repair?
Yes. We bill a flat call-out for emergency tarp / board-up that's almost always covered by your policy. You're under no obligation to use us for the permanent repair. If you do hire us, the tarp call rolls into the project. If you don't, we still want the damage stopped — that's the right thing to do.
What kind of storm damage do you handle?
Wind-lifted shingles, hail-bruised shingles, tree impacts (limbs and full trees), gutter and downspout damage, soffit and fascia tear-off, siding impact, window glass and frame damage, water intrusion + interior damage from any of the above, and full structural assessments when the framing or sheathing has been compromised.
Are you actually local, or a storm-chaser?
Local. 17 years in Beaverton. CCB #204939, headquartered at 20001 SW Tualatin Valley Hwy, Suite 208, Beaverton OR 97006. We don't show up after big storms in trucks with out-of-state plates and disappear in 90 days. Veteran-owned (USMC). When the next storm hits, we're still here — and your warranty is still valid.
